Violation of Child Support Obligations

Failing to pay child support, or not paying it sufficiently, is not a minor offense but is punishable by law, up to and including imprisonment:

"Anyone who evades a legal obligation to provide support in such a way that the livelihood of the person entitled to support is endangered or would be endangered without the assistance of others shall be punished with imprisonment for up to three years or with a fine." Section 170 (1) German Criminal Code
